Halloween Mid Life Sadness

J and I are going to a party this Saturday after Halloween. I'm going as a detective and J is going as an inmate. We're going this route mainly because I already have the costume (trenchcoat, fedora, etc) and it was the cheapest set up we could do. Next year we'll go all out, most likely as a geisha and samuri, when we aren't so tight with our budgets.

Earlier I told my boss that I am going to be the least sexiest costume wearer at this party. The women there range from 39-50 something and they all have ass-skimming, skin tight, boobs-hanging-out costumes. I'm concerned and anxious because I know I'll be so embarrassed for them. I mean, can we say Mid Life Crisis? Like those men who turn 50 and buy a red convertible, these women are trying to dress their aging and not-so-sexy bodies in sexy costumes. And for what? I just don't get it. Grosses me out. I'm just turning 30 and feel its not appropriate for ME to dress sexy - the best I got is fishnets and heels to go with my trench. That's it yo.

So what's your costume for this year? (Or your kiddos...)

Beaux Jack will be King Leonidas from the movie 300... a spartan warrior. I made his costume. It's absolutely hysterical. I'm going as a pregnant.hot.mom. It comes naturally. ;)

As for the skanky old ladies... dont worry with them. I'm gonna get old one day. I hope to be the excentric old one who stays true to myself and leaves the insecurities behind. By then, I will have accomplished so much, that embracing life and fun at every turn will out weigh what anyone thinks. In fact, I envy their self esteem. Here we are, young and living 'the best days' of our lives. Me? Five years of marriage and a kid later- still in a size 0 or 2 I still pinch my love handles as I get out of the tub. When will I get over myself enough to appreciate my body for all that it's done? Halloween is the perfect occasion to be the crazy old lady. Hopefully, I'll 'work it.'

Have fun! The question is, will you play the good cop or bad cop? Perhaps a little of both??? *bow.chica.wowow*

I'm wearing reindeer ears right now, that's probably about as far as it will go this year. I wanted to be a zombie, but didn't have time to put together a costume. Have fun! :)

haha to Chris!

I'm going as a naughty schoolgirl. I have a post or two in the works about the anxiety I have over this... One is up now actually.

Why is it that all the costumes have to be slutty? I gave in... but can we get something that covers our asses and not make us feel like matronly sexless wall flowers?

I love your costume, btw. Very cute and original. I wish I had thought of that... /facepalm

The 40 to 50ish guys with sport cars blasting classic tunes crack me up every time. Living large in your 20s typically prevents that from happening.

This year I went as a Chernobyl nuclear plant scientist sporting a lab coat and nerdy shirt/pants torn to shreds. Get it?

Cheers man
