Thursday 13 - Christmas Favorites

Haven't done a TT in a while and kind of miss them. I know its not even December yet but I'm just so psyched about the holidays, I can't help it.

This is the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends - yes, I consider you my friends! Um, do you feel the same? hee hee) I'm using it as my Thursday Thirteen, but if the holiday spirit strikes you feel free to borrow!

Thirteen of my Christmas Favorites

1. Eggnog or Hot Chocolate? Hot Chocolate, with milk and bitty marshmallows if I have any!

2. Colored lights on tree/house or white? My little 4 foot tree has colored lights and since I live in an apartment I have no outside lights to speak of. :(

3. When do you put your decorations up? The day after Thanksgiving.

4. Favorite holiday memory as a child? Me and my two younger siblings climbing into my parents' waterbed at 6:00 am on Christmas morning so we could see what Santa brought.

I have to share my mother's favorite memory: Our Christmas tree falling down on top of my Dad. We could hear him laughing and hollering, HELPPPPPP! We found two size 14's looking at us! LOLOL

I loved her memory so much I had to share. The holidays were always such a big deal for my Paw Paw and it just hasn't been the same since he's passed.

5. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I think I was 8 or 9. I was taking a bath and my mom had come in for a towel, saw I was troubled by something. I explained to her that a kid at school told me the Easter Bunny wasn't real. She unwillingly admitted this to be the truth and a few minutes later I gasped "then Santa isn't real either???" Oh yeah, I was a bright one.

6. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him? Homemade chocolate chip of course!

7. Snow! Love it or hate it? Don't get the stuff don't South. *sigh*

8. Can you ice skate? I must say I'm an excellent ice skater. (Seriously) First time in the Galleria and didn't fall once!

9. Do you remember your favorite gift? I think the digi cam I got last year from Babers ranks pretty high up there.

10. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Pecan pie, hands down.

11. Favorite Holiday tradition?
Our family party on Christmas Eve. We take turns: one year at my parents', the next at my aunt and uncles. The best part is having our growing family pile up in one room to open presents. My Daddy plays Santa Claus, passing the presents out to everyone. In the end, with all the presents and people, there's barely any room and we're all practically piled on top of each other. My sister and I get fussed at no less than twice on this evening for being too loud in such a crowded room. I just love Christmas Eve present night.

12. What tops your tree? Sadly enough, I don't have a topper. Me and my guy's first ornament - soft Saints Santa hat - is hanging on the top branch instead.

13. What is your favorite Christmas Carol? Silent Night or Drummer Boy, I can't pick between the two. My sister and I are EXCELLENT singers of these songs. No, really.

Awsome TT! I'm a Hot Chocolate, colored lights girl myself! :) your family sounds like a lot of fun at Christmas time. Thanks for the sweet comment on my post about my lost friendship, I didn't mean to actually post that one yet, I'm still working on it, so I took it down for awhile, and put up the one I meant to post, but I appreciate your kind words.

I need to start doing these TT's again...

But eggnog has liqueur in it. You're not Irish, huh?

I have to say, I loved jumping in my parents bed to wake them up. We'd get in deep shit if we went out before getting them. :/ Well, they always said we would. I never tested the limit.

I like the memory of your dad under the fallen Christmas tree. That was cute and funny!

My daughter is 10, and she still believes in Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Faerie. If I can have it my way she'll continue believing this until she's 21. ;D

that was a great TT! I love Christmas! I can't wait to be semi settled in my new place with the tree! I can't wait for the snow... even though I say I hate it... I miss it a little... and even though I have a crapload of stuff to do before the snow is allowed to come... ugh.

:-)

Tape you and your sister singing and post it! :-D i want to hear!

What a great TT. I love your Christmas memory.

Of course, I think it's awful that someone lied to you and told you Santa doesn't exist. I mean, think of the Santa list - he love you and give you exactly what you want because you are good at heart. Know anyone like that? Santa rules man.

Nice TT.

I learned that Santa wasn't real the same way; that is, my parents told me there was no Easter Bunny, from which I surmised there was no Santa.

That didn't stop me from making gift lists, though. Hey Mom and Dad, you started this wed of deceit. You're going to FINISH it.

You know what my trick is for extra special hot cocoa? I heat 3 cups of milk and 3/4 of French Vanilla creamer on the stove, along with 4 packets of hot cocoa mix and 1/4 cup of chocolate syrup. Whisk it together and get it nice and warm. I cut up my marshmallows into bite size pieces and put them on the bottom of the cup then pour the hot cocoa over the top. And of course you need the whip cream and cherry on top. My kids LOVE it like a crack addict likes crack.

stacie - thanks! And no biggie on the post - i was sitting on my bloglines that night waiting for someone to post so I'd have some good reading material. TT's can be fun... until you run out of ideas!

simpy curious - I realized as I got older that the reason they'd threaten us kids about going in before them was because our reaction was the reward for all their hard work playing Santa!

noelle - thank you too! I'm a big tea drinker myself, it can be festive with a little mint in it too. Yum!

pre pon - thanks! That was actually my mom's memory, so it was my paw paw. He was such a big kid about christmas. My maw maw would serve him pie first and by the time she'd get around to serving herself he would pretend like he had never gotten a piece showing her his empty plate.

papa - I have a feeling I'll feel that way about it with my kids too. :)

kitty - my parents' tree is white-lighted with angel ornaments and trimmed in silver and gold. I love it - very whimsical.

sj simon - GO PLAY ON SOMEONE ELSE'S BLOG!

kelly - how nice will it be to celebrate your first christmas just after moving in?! Mine landed like that too - move in was December and it really made for great memories.

You would not visit my blog anymore if I posted me and sis singing! lol.

claudia - I KNEW it! They just wanted Santa all to themselves...

LBB - funny you say that. Even though me and my sister have been "in the know" for nearly 20 years, we continued to spend the night at our parents and woke up to Santa's presents in the morning up until just a couple years ago. I think it was just as much for my parents as it was for us.

christie - OMG that sounds DELICIOUS. I bet you're one mean cook! I'm definitely going to try it.

I stopped believing in Santa when I was about 8. I got up to go to the loo and saw my mum putting the presents under the tree. Without her having to deny anything I knew santa was too good to be true :(

Drummer boy for sure, they make more noise.

My favorite holiday tradition is the merciless teasing on my Dad's side of the family. If you get underwear or any even vaguely trendy or sexy clothes from your clotheshorse stepmom, everyone shouts out, "WOOOOO!!" and when my grandmother used to repeat something a few times, everyone would join in and repeat it.
